Sturtevant Co. of Hartford, Connecticut.A great early horse and livestock medicine advertising piece with colorful red, yellow, and black lithographed graphics. The lid prominently reads “COLUMBIA GALL SALVE – USE YOUR HORSE” and retains the original 25 CENTS price.The reverse contains the original directions for treating:

Mud scaldsThe reverse also bears Guarantee No. 21284 under the Food and Drugs Act of June 30, 1906. The front is marked AM. CAN CO. for American Can Company.Period catalog evidence confirms Columbia Gall Salve was being sold by F.C. Sturtevant by the 1910s. Based on the 25-cent price and labeling, this example is believed to date approximately c.1907–1915.Condition: Original antique condition with age-related scratches, edge/rim wear, small areas of lithograph loss, oxidation and surface wear. Both sides remain remarkably colorful and legible.
