Antique Walker & Hall Sheffield Shipboard Table Knife – U.S.S. Co. B.C.
Interesting antique/vintage table knife manufactured by Walker & Hall, Sheffield, England, a prominent British silversmith and cutlery manufacturer.
The handle is prominently engraved/stamped:
U.S.S. Co.
B.C.
The marking is believed to represent the Union Steamship Company of British Columbia, a historic Canadian coastal passenger and freight steamship company that operated from 1889 until 1959. The U.S.S. Co. / B.C. marking appears consistent with an institutional/property mark rather than a manufacturer’s mark.
The blade bears the Walker & Hall trademark along with “Silver Cutlers & Silversmiths – Sheffield.”
A fascinating piece for collectors of:
• Maritime and steamship memorabilia
• British Columbia history
• Antique shipboard dining ware
• Walker & Hall / Sheffield cutlery
• Vintage knives and institutional flatware
Condition: Pre-owned antique/vintage condition with visible age-related wear, tarnish/patina, surface scratches and discoloration consistent with many years of use and storage. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
Important: The Union Steamship Company of British Columbia attribution is based on the “U.S.S. Co. / B.C.” property marking and historical research. It is presented as a believed attribution rather than guaranteed provenance to a particular vessel.
