Exceptional large original early-20th-century theatrical photograph, believed to depict Western Maryland College's 1923 production of Booth Tarkington's Clarence.

The photograph measures approximately 9½ x 8 inches and is mounted on its original period cardboard mount, which is signed/marked “Lewis Studio / WESTMINSTER.”

The Lewis Studio of Westminster, Maryland was the official photographer of Western Maryland College's Aloha yearbook. The college's 1923 Aloha documents the dramatic club's production of Booth Tarkington's Clarence as its major theatrical undertaking of the year, to be performed in Alumni Hall with new scenery and lighting effects. The college's later institutional history confirms that Clarence was produced by the Department of Speech on May 15, 1923.

The photograph shows a fully constructed domestic interior stage set with three performers and elaborate period theatrical decoration and lighting.
