Antique Ridgway Blue Transferware Octagonal Pinch Handle Jug Pitcher Canton 8.5" For Sale

This is an antique blue and white transferware jug or pitcher in a classic Chinese Canton pattern, with a distinctly blue-tinted pearlware glaze. The decoration on the spout is handpainted. There's also a co-ordinating floral transferware pattern on the handle. The shape of the jug is a known Rigdway shape which is referred to as the "octagonal pinch-handled jug". While J & W Ridgway do seem to have made items in a classic Chinese Canton pattern, it does differ from the pattern shown here, and while this pattern is more similar to the later Ashworth Bros. Real Old Canton pattern, it's still not an exact match, though perhaps it's the basis for the Ashworth Bros. Real Old Canton? As it's unmarked, I won't try to date or attribute it precisely, but the pearlware glaze suggests an earlier date, and this pattern in the octagonal pinch-handled jug does seem rare.
This jug is in very good antique condition, with some manufacturing flaws such as a hairline towards the bottom of the jug and a spot of missing glaze on the top of the handle.Height total 8 3/8"Diameter 6 1/2"Length including handle and spout 8"
