This offer is a very small solid boxwood smoothing plane only 4 1/8 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide with a 1 1/4 inch wide iron.The coffin-shaped plane body is 1 15/16 inches tall and about 4 inches high with blade.Planes of this size are a real rarity; a real collectors piece and useful tool for fine work.

The plane and iron were probably craftsman-made and show no maker marks.It features the “A FLANDERS” owner mark repeated across the body of the plane.There is one shrinkage crack on one side which is common in using wood from the center of the tree.

The single iron is about 1/8 inches thick and is polished to bright steel at the cutting end.It fits tight in the plane body with a boxwood wedge.Curiously there is a strip of veneer/leather attached to the underside of the wedge.

The plane is well used and show wear but it is well taken care of and is in good condition.The sole shows scars, and a small chip.It is generally flat but could use a tune up.
