Antique Mettlach V&B Beer Stein Etched Knight with Stein #2765 by H.Schlitt c.1904

: This gorgeous stein was made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach in 1883. It is made using the etched technique, with a relief lid inlay in the form of the tower that creates a wonderful effect.

The central scene shows a knight in full armor riding a magnificent white horse. He is holding aZweihänder, or two-handed sword, in one hand and a beer stein in another. The whole scene refers to the "Good old times" of the late Middle Ages, with the cult of masculinity, strength, and beer drinking. And yet, it is slightly humorous and ironic.

The lid is pewter with a fantastic ceramics inlay in the form of a Middle-ages tower, the thumblift is made in the form of an ancient warrior wearing a Roman Gallic helmet.

The stein was designed by Henrich Schlitt - the most famous Mettlach artist and designer who created many beautiful Mettlach pieces. Almost all of his beer stein designs were some sort of funny and humorous.

The stein is fully marked on the bottom with the incised Mettlach tower mark, mold number 2765, and "04" to the right of the tower for the date of manufacturing 1904. Number "28" to the left of the tower is the quality control number.

The stein is in excellent flawless condition - a collector's dream. No damage, flaws or repairs. The inside is spotless white.

This is a nice and impressive stein, with history and tradition behind it.

It is 10" tall to the top of the tower, 0.5 L capacity.
