This antique chalice in gilded or vermil silver with its paten is a beautifully handmade piece that originates from France in the late 19th century, circa 1890, made by Parisian silversmith Brunet Paul. Sterling chalice and paten, both with the L*G mark. The chalice also bears theMinerva hallmark, which is an official French guarantee mark introduced on May 10, 1838, to certify the purity of solid silver items.The paten has a secondary mark that I am unable to interpret. The chalice, a symbol of Christianity and its sacraments, exudes a sense of historical significance and craftsmanship. Made with great attention to detail and exquisite design, this is a collectible item that would be a cherished piece for any Christian collector or someone interested in religious artifacts.Silver and silver-gilt chalice and paten. The circular base supports a tubular shaft with a flattened knot and a collar. These were a gift to me 50 years ago by an elderly Catholic priest who was dying, as he wanted them cherished and protected after he was gone. Now it is my time to go, and I have no one to leave them to, and I would love if they found a home to be loved as much as I have loved them.
