Antique Catholic Pieta Shrine Shadow Box Holy Water IHS Religious Folk Art:
$185.00

Beautiful and unusual antique Catholic devotional shrine featuring a three-dimensional Pietà scene of the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus after the Crucifixion.

The religious scene is displayed behind glass in a substantial dark wood case with colorful decorative borders, angels, a cross, and the inscription “BLESSED BE THY HOLY NAME.”

The lower section opens to reveal a small devotional compartment containing an IHS-decorated metal dish, a metal spoon with cross decoration, and an old glass holy water bottle with cork. The interior retains its aged original character and shows considerable age-related wear, particularly to the paper lining.

Approximate size: 23" high 13" wide 4" deep

The wooden case, hardware, interior surfaces, back and devotional accessories show age-appropriate wear, patina and deterioration consistent with an older religious piece.

A wonderfully atmospheric piece of Catholic devotional history with beautiful aged character. An impressive display for a collection of religious antiques, sacred art, folk art, or ecclesiastical objects.
