This antique, 4 3/8" -diameter coronet-handled American pewter porringer with cast-in initials IC has uncrowned owner's intials and was found with other items with the same initials on larger Boston, Mass. porringers and a set of English-export sadware dating from the very early Federal era, ca. 1780s. The mold in which this was cast was used for a long time in Boston. That mold probably originated in Boston with Jonas Clarke, but was probably being used in Thomas Green's shop at this time this example was first sold shortly after the Treaty of Paris that offiicially ended the Revolutionary War and the resumption in earnest of English-export pewter being sold through the port of Boston.
