Description:Antique comic postcard titled "VERY IRISHTOCRATIC," a playful pun on "aristocratic" from the golden age of the American postcard. The card shows a caricatured Irish lady with a sour expression, wearing a wide green hat trimmed with red flowers and green stems, a fur collar, a green shamrock-patterned gown, and gauzy fairy wings, while holding a shamrock-topped walking stick hung with small red shamrocks. The colors are bright and the printing is crisp, with green, red, and blue tones that remain strong.
The divided "POST CARD" back carries a postage box reading "United States, Canada & Mexico One Cent / For All Other Countries Two Cents." The card was mailed from East Windsor, Mass., with a circular postmark dated June 22, 1912. It is addressed in pencil to Mrs. Chas. Parkes, Durhamville, N.Y., with a handwritten pencil message running vertically up the left side and signed "your aunt Angie." A red ink signature or handstamp appears along the top edge of the back. No publisher imprint was observed.
This card would suit collectors of St. Patrick's Day and Irish-American ephemera, early comic and humor postcards, Massachusetts and New York postal history, and turn-of-the-century caricature art.
Standard postcard format. The long edge measures approximately 5 3/8 inches.
Condition:Used, postally mailed antique condition. The front shows overall age toning with light soiling on the off-white background. A few small dark specks or tiny marks sit near the top edge. The corners are softened and show light rounding, with mild edge wear. The image itself remains vivid with no tears observed. The back is toned and carries the pencil message and address, the postmark, and the red ink signature. The postage stamp is no longer present, though cancellation lines remain. Please review the detailed photos carefully as part of the condition description.
