Antique 1800\'s Hand Carved Solid Walnut Bacchus Dionysus Satyr Bust or Statue For Sale

Description:
This antique solid walnut architectural bust was crafted in continental Europe and likely dates to the late 1800\'s. The hand-carved figure appears to represent Bacchus, also known as Dionysus, the god of wine. Grapevine foliage, clusters of grapes, and curling satyr horns surround an expressive bearded face. The warm brown finish highlights the wood grain and the depth of the carving.
The rounded shoulders and chest rise above a carved support with scrolling ornament. Originally made for mounting in an architectural niche, panel, or alcove, the bust has a deliberately flat, unfinished reverse with old mounting holes.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.Condition:
This bust is in very good antique condition, with very minor wear consistent with age and use. The reverse is intentionally unfinished and retains old mounting holes. Please review all photographs closely for condition details.Dimensions:
