5 Antique WW1 Era Embossed Hand Painted Greetings Cards Brooch Ribbon c1914-20s For Sale

A set of five antique embossed greetings cards, dating from the First World War era, c. 1914 to the 1920s. These came from a box of WW1 related artefacts in an estate clearance.

Novelty cards like these, with ribbons and tiny brooches, were popular keepsakes at the time and were often sent to loved ones serving away from home. All five feature hand-painted pansies on celluloid or vellum overlays, with glitter lettering and ribbon ties.

The style and construction are consistent with the First World War period, and cards of this type were commonly exchanged at that time. I cannot confirm when or by whom these particular cards were sent, so the wartime link is a possibility rather than a certainty. The "From" line inside is blank.

Genuine antique items with age-related wear, including some toning and foxing, minor marks, and light wear to ribbons and glitter. Ribbons and brooches appear original to the cards.
