Apple Annie's Courtyard opened in July 1976 in the old Leon Building as part of the second phase of Bob Snow's Church Street Station, the downtown Orlando entertainment complex that began with Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Emporium in 1974. Snow furnished the Victorian-garden room with salvage — twelve-foot hand-carved Austrian mirrors, four 1,000-pound brass chandeliers taken from a Buffalo church, and architectural pieces from New Orleans and France — and the courtyard was a bluegrass and folk room, with Mother's Choice as its house band. Church Street Station drew roughly 3.5 million visitors a year at its 1980s peak, and a Baltimore Gas & Electric subsidiary bought the complex for $61 million in 1989. After Downtown Disney and Universal CityWalk pulled the tourist crowd away, the last of its businesses closed in 2001.
