The Boat House opened in early 1970 on Harbor Island, the two-mile San Diego peninsula built up from harbor dredgings in 1961 and leased out by the Port of San Diego for marinas, hotels, and restaurants. From its place on the marina it drew locals and visitors with panoramic bay views and value draws such as its weekly lobster and prime rib nights. Restaurateur siblings John and Jill Ealy bought the restaurant in 2001. After nearly 50 years in business it closed on June 29, 2019, letting its lease expire rather than operate through the redevelopment of the Harbor Island West Marina plaza.
