1950 Mercury Cabriolet Luxury Series Trading Card Lead Sled Custom Suicide Doors For Sale

This trading card depicts the ~1950 Mercury Cabriolet, a first-generation post-war design frequently used as a base for custom car modifications. The card belongs to a “Luxury” series and shows a yellow convertible with a tan top, parked on a wooden pier. A building labeled “*Soundings” appears in the background, establishing a maritime setting. The vehicle exhibits the period’s defining styling elements: a heavy horizontal chrome grille, streamlined body lines, and rear-hinged “suicide” doors. Manufactured from ~1950, the model is recognized both for its factory luxury appointments and for its role as a preferred platform for the “Lead Sled” customization movement, as its low, smooth body contours facilitated techniques such as chopping and channeling. The card serves as an artifact of automotive ephemera, documenting a specific design era within the American automobile industry’s post-war recovery. Its value to collectors derives from its direct reference to a single, well-documented vehicle generation. The image, rendered in warm period-appropriate colors, functions both as a visual record of the car’s factory-original specifications and as a representation of the model’s continued relevance in custom-car circles. For individuals studying 1950s automotive design or Mercury history, this card provides a tangible document of the vehicle that connected factory production with underground customization.
