UNUSUAL HANDWRITTEN BANK PRESIDENTINSCRIPTION
A FASCINATING PIECE OF EARLY HISTORY
Offered for sale is an original antiquereal photo postcard featuring a remarkableearly open-top automobile photographedwith two formally dressed gentlemen.
The photograph captures an automobilefrom the pioneering years of Americanmotoring, when automobiles were stillrelatively uncommon and representedan exciting new form of transportation.
The vehicle features a prominent uprightradiator, large circular headlights,spoked wheels, distinctive fenders,and an open passenger compartment.
Both gentlemen are dressed in periodclothing, including traditional hats.
UNUSUAL HISTORICAL INSCRIPTION
One of the most interesting aspectsof this postcard is the handwritteninscription along the lower front border.
The inscription appears to includethe name Farnsworth and the words\"Absconding Bank Pres.\"
The precise transcription and identityof the individual have not beenconclusively established.
This intriguing notation offersan interesting opportunity foradditional historical research.
The reverse also contains an earlyhandwritten inscription (in amazing scroll) and a datewritten as 5-7-10.

The handwritten inscription
The front appears to read:
“S. Farnsworth Bock Absconding Bank Pres.”
However, the handwriting is difficult to decipher, particularly the first name and the word that appears to be Bock.
The reverse contains:
- A handwritten inscription that appears to include “Compliments” and “Farnsworth Bock.”
- The date 5-7-10, suggesting May 7, 1910.
- An early divided postcard back with an AZO stamp box.
- No postage stamp or postal cancellation.
Who was the bank president?
I searched historical banking records and reports of absconding bank presidents.
One historical case involves Edwin L. Sylvester, president of Minnesota\'s Plainview State Bank, who disappeared in 1925 following allegations of embezzlement. However, that case occurred 15 years after your postcard\'s handwritten date, so there is no basis for identifying him as the person pictured. Howder Family
The Federal Reserve\'s historical banking directory provides an additional research resource, but I haven\'t found a documented match for the name as written.
