The SS Columbia was a twin-screw express steamer built in 1889 by Laird Brothers for the Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG). Designed for speed, she regularly sailed transatlantic routes between Hamburg and New York. In 1898, she was sold to Spain and briefly served as the auxiliary cruiser Rapido during the Spanish–American War. HAPAG reacquired her in 1899, resuming passenger service under her original name. In 1904, she was sold to Russia, renamed Terek, and served in the Russo–Japanese War before being decommissioned and scrapped in 1907.
