Original 1878 advertising broadside / special notice issued by C. Denny & Co. of Northfield, Vermont, dated January 16, 1878.

The large-format advertisement announces a seasonal reduction sale intended to move excess stock, with the striking headline “SPECIAL NOTICE!!” followed by numerous goods and prices.

Advertised merchandise includes:

• Woolen shawls and bed blankets
• Furs and cloaks, with original and reduced prices
• Double Paisley shawls
• Black cashmere
• All-wool figured dress goods
• Double Zephyr worsted
• Buck-skin mittens and gloves
• Boys’ rubber boots
• Men’s, ladies’ and children’s overshoes

Particularly appealing is the period retail language, including “AT LESS THAN COST” and the statement that goods were being marked down to induce “QUICK SALES.” The advertisement provides a nice snapshot of clothing, textile, footwear and winter-goods merchandising in Vermont during the 1870s.

Measures approximately 9 x 12 inches.

Condition shows age toning, horizontal fold lines, edge/corner wear, small edge losses/notches and scattered minor marks/soiling. Printing remains strong and highly legible. Reverse is blank with visible print-through. Please examine photographs carefully for condition.
