Autographs

Baseball autographs can be anything from a great investment for the future to an enjoyable hobby. This article will show you how to get the most out of baseball autographs, whether that is collecting, purchasing, or selling them.

There are three main ways to collect baseball autographs, and that is through the mail, in a ballpark, or through a dealer or market. Getting a baseball autograph through the mail is a fun and inexpensive option that should be considered first. To do this, simply send a baseball card, index card, picture, etc. along with a self addressed envelope asking the particular baseball player if they could sign it for you. The tip here is to make it as simple as possible for them by providing a self addressed envelope with a stamp so that all they need to do is just send it back to you. It may take weeks if not months to hear back, as they may get a lot of fan mail or do not answer during the season, so be patient in this regard. There is also a good probability of not receiving back an autograph at all, so it is really a risk-reward sort of experience.

Another great way to get an autograph is by going to the ballpark itself early and seeing if the player will sign it for you on the field. Most players sign autographs before a game starts so there is a good chance of getting one, although you will not be the only one there clamoring for an autograph. A tip here is to be as aggressive as possible, don’t get into a fight but you may have to push your way through to get to the player.

Lastly, the most expensive (but most time convenient) way of getting an autograph is by purchasing one in a card shop or through an online dealer. They will be more expensive and there is a high chance of the autograph not being original, so make sure to ask the dealer/owner if there are any certificates of authenticity (coa’s) attached to the autograph; if there are none, you may want to look elsewhere, even if it may seem like a good deal. It is better to pass on a good deal than to take the deal and realize the dealer did the autograph himself to make it look original and ripped you off. Also, when purchasing a baseball autograph make sure to put in some research ahead of time. Look up prices on the internet and bring them along with you if you are going to a card shop. Being informed is the best way to get a good deal when purchasing a baseball autograph.

Okay, so you own a lot of autographs and you are thinking about selling some of them. How do you go about doing this? The first step when selling an autograph is to have it authenticated. That way potential buyers can be assured that they are not getting ripped off in any manner. Check online for some reputable autograph authentication companies and you will find what you need. The final step is to sell the autograph itself, whether at a card shop, an online dealer, ebay, and so on. I would recommend visiting a card shop and having a friendly conversation with the owner. He or she will be able to give you information regarding your autograph and will lead you in the right direction when it comes to selling it.
