Vintage Framed Original Indonesian Fabric Art Hand Waxing and Dyeing Framed Size 24" X 36". Beautiful scene of colorful mushrooms on a blue background. The batik measures 29" X 37" and is framed behind upgraded plexiglass and weighs 7lbs 6 oz. Ipurchased this original signed wall art batik in Bali Indonesia in 1998. It is in excellent condition.
Some of the best batiks in the world are made in Indonesia. Batik is an ancient fabric-wax resist dyeing technique that originated on Island of Java centuries ago. Batiks are made with cotton, silk or other fabric. The process that the artists uses to create a colorful batik is very tedious and time consuming but the outcome is beautiful Selected areas of a design, which is hand drawn by the artist, are blocked out by appying hot wax over them, then a dye is applied on top. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain in original color. The dyes are made from plants which give the batik its wonderful rich vibrant colors. Wax is usually beeswax, paraffin or candle wax. As the wax drys it can crack and allow dye to seep through creating beautiful textured affects. The word batik is derived from the word ambatik which means little dots!
