Vtg. 1941 USS OKLAHOMA THANKSGIVING LUAU PROGRAM days before PEARL HARBOR ATTACK For Sale

A recent estate find..
an original U.S.S. OKLAHOMA THANKSGIVING LUAU 1941 PROGRAM held shortly before the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor.4 pages, 12" x 8.5" . This program was issued for the luau held aboard the ship on November 20, 1941....just 17 days before the attack.The Oklahoma would be sunk and 432 of its crew would perish. The menu lists the officers of the ship including the tragic figure of Capt. Howard D. Bode who was not on board the ship during the attack an committed suicide two years later while he was under investigation. Also listed is Commander Jesse L. Kenworthy who would be the one to give the order to abandon ship.It is ephemera like this menu that makes the war come to life. One can imagine how innocent and fun life was for these servicemen having a feast and sipping papaya cocktails.....just a couple weeks before December the 7th, the date that lives in infamy.quite good condition, colors are vibrant. a crease in the middle where it was folded,some small wrinkles at top right corner, two very small holes(see photo) and pencil written inscription on back. It seems from this writing that this program belonged to the bandmaster of the Luau.
ORIGINAL COPIES OF THIS PROGRAM VERY RARELY APPEAR. THERE ARE A COUPLE IN MUSEUMS. A MENU IN SIMILAR CONDITION GARNISH 800 DOLLARS AT AN sale IN 2016.
