ORIGINAL ANTIQUE BRASS BAR MOUNTED CORKSCREW - \"THE MERRITT\"NON-CLAMP VERSION

This is the more rare variant with a non-clamp base. It requires bolting or screwing to the bar (Mounting hardware (screws) are not included).

The British Merritt bar corkscrew was manufactured in two versions one mounted with an adjustable clamp and the other with a flat circular plate and mounted with screws. Cornelius Chambers, 13 Great Charles Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England was granted British Patent No. 4,564 on March 26, 1888 and later Canadian Patent No. 33,167 on December 18, 1889. The British Merritt bar corkscrew is adjustable. The worm—the screw part—withdrawal mechanism is a famous patent and registered design. American, German and French bar corkscrews were made of cast iron, often plated with nickel. The British favoured brass, as did the Spanish. The British Manufacturers were: Gaskell & Chambers Ltd. in Dale End; Farrow & Jackson Ltd. in London; W.R. Loftus Ltd. in London; Parnall & Sons in Bristol; Samuel Mason Ltd. in Dale End; Merritt & Chambers in Dale End.
