This is a rare pre-Oklahoma statehood Canadian County, Oklahoma Territory Certificate of Election from 1902. It certifies that Charles M Standard was legally elected to the office of Register of Deeds for Canadian County on November 4th, 1902.

"CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION

Territory of Oklahoma, County of Canadian, SS

To Chas M StandardI, Earl Beebe, Clerk of said Canadian County, do hereby certify, and you, the said Chas M Standard, are hereby notified, that at the Election held on the 4th day of November A.D. 1902, for the election of County officers, in and for said Canadian County you were duly and elected to the office of Register of Deeds in and for Canadian County, in said Territory, as appears from the canvas of the votes, and the determination of the Board of Canvassers of said election now on file in my office. You are further notified that you must file your official bond, take the oath of office, and qualify as required by the Statues, before you can enter upon the duties of such office.

Witness My Hand and official seal at El Reno Oklahoma in said County of Canadian this 7th day of November A.D. 1902.

Earl Beebe, County Clerk"

The certificate also has an official County Clerk Canadian County, Okla raised embossed seal. It is approximately 8.5" x 13.5".

More about Charles M Standard:

Charles Marion Standard was born in Canton, Illinois in 1868. He went to high school in Nebraska and college in Danville, Indiana. He married Blanche Bothell in 1899. They moved to Okarche, Oklahoma in 1895 and he had a hardware business. The Standards then moved to El Reno when he became the Register of Deeds. Standard was a member of the Blue Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, and Knights Templar. He moved back to Okarche around 1926, and he passed away in 1933.
