McNeely, who served as president of the American Telephone and Telegraph
Company from Aug. 16, 1961, until he retired on Dec. 31, 1964, died today at
his home here. He was 73 years old. Mr. McNeely earned a degree in electrical
engineering at the University of Missouri in 1922 and joined the Southwestern
Bell Telephone Company as $25‐a‐week student engineer. He became
division construction superintendent for the company for the State of Arkansas
and then, in 1947, was named general plant manager for Southwestern Bell's five‐state area. He rose steadily,
becoming president of Northwestern Bell, vice president in charge of personnel
relations for the parent company, executive vice president and then president.
