DETAILS: Hard to find handbill for the The Peoples Ballroom while it was under the management of Russ Gibb. Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\" inches.

BIOGRAPHY:In 1966 the Grande Ballroom in Detroit Michigan was acquired byhigh school teacher and local radioDJ Russ Gibb. Gibb was inspired by visiting San Francisco\'s Fillmore Theater, and envisioned a similar venue in Detroit for the new psychedelic music Gibb worked closely with Detroit counterculture figure John Sinclair and Hugh \"JEEP\" Holland in bringing in bands from San Francisco, Europe and the neighbouring States as well as the toplocalbands, including the MC5 (who featured their debut live album there). Some of the bands who played the venue while it was the People\'s Ballroom were:Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Howlin\' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Beck, Procol Harum, Cream and The Who.John Coltrane and Sun Ra. In addition the MC5, The Thyme, and The Stooges served as house bands, assuring weekly performances.
