Norman Smith Potter Lawley Alabama 1962 authentic handmade cream jug & milk jug.

We spent time with Jug Smith in the summer of 1962, when a relative in art school was making a film of the potter and interviewing him about his life. He was a lovely man, humble and hard-working. He made honest pots, mostly for his neighbors’ everyday use. However, he made us a special set and put a sort of cabochon in blue/black on the cream pitcher, to show that he valued our interest; it was as fancy as he got. Norman E. Smith (1904-1990) deserves to be honored for his art, and this set is offered for sale with respect.
