She was built by Harland & Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, Ireland for the P&O Line, British flag. She was a 20,837 GT ship with dimensions of 600\'x73\'. She was one of two largest P&O Liners built to date. Twin-screw, 17 knots, quadruple expansion engines, two masts and two funnels.
Service was London to Australia via Suez Canal. She had passenger accommodations for 327 first and 329 second.
Sold to British ship breakers in 1954. Sister ship of the MOOLTAN.
