FRENCH IMPORT U.S. MODEL 1853 FOOT OFFICER\'S SWORD BY J. MANCEAUX For Sale

French Import U.S. Model 1853 Foot Officer's Sword by J. Manceaux 30.5" quill back blade, 1.25" wide at ricasso. Gilt brass single-branch guard with grooved horn grip. Blade is devoid of typical ornamentation with ricasso showing French control stamps and spine showing 1819 (?) Chatellerault markings in script- we’ve attempted to translate, but simply cannot make out the script. (See pictures!). Top of guard shows J. Manceaux proof of " JM " in a ring with numeral " 45 " beside reverse ricasso. Leather scabbard with gilt brass furniture also marked " J. MANCEAUX/A PARIS ". Condition: Blade is in very good condition with some minor loss of definition to markings due to prior cleaning. Still sharp. Tip is complete. Nearly all of the gilt remains to scabbard and hilt with minor loss. Grip is in good condition with minimal imperfections. Leather scabbard is missing brass end piece.
