US Civil War Model 1840 NCO Sword with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Made by Ames Mfg. Co", "Chicopee", "Mass" and on the reverse "U.S." over "A.D.K." over "1862". The side of the knuckleguard is marked "A.D.K.". The brass guard and grip are tight. The knuckle guard and clamshells have some nicks and scratches. The blade is straight, unsharpened, a few nicks, and there are some light age spots scattered throughout (some darker ones on the tip area). The leather scabbard is solid, the stitching is mostly tight, the drag is marked "A.H.C.", there are leather loss spots with crazing scattered throughout, comes up about 1/8" of going on all the way at the ricasso, and there is a repair about 2" up from the drag piece. Washer is missing. Length of the blade is 32 3/8" (7/8" wide and 5/16" thick), the sword is 38 3/4", and in the scabbard it is 39 5/16".
