This medal was sent in to usthis week, from one of the Carmelite convnets we work. It is a beautifulSpanish Colonial rosary medal that is 1.25 inch long, and has a weight of 8grams.

Saint Teresa of Ávila, also called Saint Teresa ofJesus, baptized as Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada (28 March 1515 -- 4October 1582), was a prominent Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelitenun, author during the Counter Reformation, and theologian of contemplativelife through mental prayer. She was a reformer of the Carmelite Order and isconsidered to be a founder of the Discalced Carmelites along with John of theCross.

Saint John of the Cross, O.C.D. (Spanish: San Juan de laCruz; 24 June 1542 -- 14 December 1591), was a major figure of theCounter-Reformation, a Spanish mystic, a Roman Catholic saint, a Carmelitefriar and a priest who was born at Fontiveros, Old Castile.John of the Crosswas a reformer of the Carmelite Order and is considered, along with SaintTeresa of Ávila, as a founder of the Discalced Carmelites. He is also knownfor his writings. Both his poetry and his studies on the growth of the soul areconsidered the summit of mystical Spanish literature and one of the peaks ofall Spanish literature. He was canonized as a saint in 1726 by Pope BenedictXIII. He is one of the thirty-six Doctors of the Church.
