This is a very nice lot of signed items from legendary stage and screen actress Helen Hayes, who was married to playwright and screenwriter Charles MacArthur. All these items came from the same estate. The three letters are personal correspondence to friends of her son James MacArthur (also an actor, most known for his role as Danny in Hawaii 5-0). The books are also inscribed to these friends. This lot includes:
Letter 1: Handwritten with original postmarked envelope. Signed as Helen Hayes. Dated May 1968. Written to the mother of one of her son\'s friends around the time of the friends\' marriage.Letter 2: Typewritten, signed as Helen MacArthur (her married name). With original postmarked envelope, dated June 1968. Written to her son\'s friends on the occasion of their marriage.Letter 3: Typewritten, signed as Helen MacArthur. With original postmarked envelope, dated January 1991. Written to her son\'s friend Mike thanking him for a gift. Book 1: A Gift of Joy by Helen Hayes, 1965, 3rd printing. Wear to dust jacket, including small rips/rubbing at corners and edges. The spine on the title page spread is cracked and the inner binding material is visible for half the length. Inscribed to her son James\' friend Mike Sienkewicz and signed Helen Hayes MacArthur. Book 2: Loving Life by Helen Hayes with Marion Glasserow Gladney, 1987. Inscribed to Mike and Marika and signed Helen Hayes MacArthur. Book and dust jacket in good vintage condition with no issues noted.
Book 3: Helen Hayes: My Life in Three Acts by Helen Hayes with Katherine Hatch, 1990. Inscribed to Marika Sienkiewicz and signed Helen Hayes MacArthur (Jim\'s Mom) and dated 1990. Book and dust jacket in good condition with no issues noted.
