For sale is a 1946 Mine Safety Appliance (MSA) Model "S" All Service Fireman Gas Mask Antique Set.
It's complete with its original case, gas mask, hose with sophisticated 2 hour timer attached and canister with the canister's canvas holster.
The case is in decent shape for its age. The hinges line up great and buckles secure well. Perhaps it's a bit Rusty on the metal trim but is still sturdy and rugged. There appears to be no markings from Mine Safety Appliance Company on the outside of the case.

This antique collectible was manufactured in the U.S.A. in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and is a wonderful addition to any mining or fire fighter collection.
The case is missing it's original handle. It has been replaced with a newspaper machine handle. There are signs of rust along the metal trim but the case is still in good shape doing it's job well. The hinges still align up and the buckles are able to close properly and securely.
The glass eye views to the gask mask are in wonderful shape. No cracks or damage and the seals are in great shape.Xl
It can be worn still but you have to be extremely gentle and very cautious. The rubber adjustable straps on the gas mask appear to still be attached and secured but if you pull with enough force then these straps will tear off and become useless. But as of now they are all still attached to the head gear of gask mask. You just need to be aware that the rubber is not as stretchy as it once was. The same thing goes for the canvas holster for the canister. The canvas straps have acquired a form rust that has made the canvas straps extremely brittle. It would take very little effort to tear these straps wear the rust from the metal canister has formed a cancerous display of weakness.
The hose is still in wonderful condition and it easily can be attached to the canister or removed from the gas mask. The timer to the hose which attaches to the canister is very sophisticated. I'm not sure exactly how the timer works. It's a 2 hour timer which is the maximum amount of time that you can get out of each canister. The timer is only to be set or repaired by a MSA professional technician.
The canister is responsible for causing a lot of damage to the canister holster since they were stored together for decades. I believe the rust from the metal canister has eaten through a portion of the straps. The shoe lace area seems to be its strongest point.
Ready to be displayed but not recommended for used for cosplay purposes since it would cause further damage to the gas mask or canister holster.
