1916 Oregon State University Agricultural College vintage rare school Yearbook. Photos 1, 2 and 3 show the front cover, back cover and binding. Photos 4 and 5 show the Title Pages. Photo # 6 show the Table of Contents. Photos # 7 and 8 shows the Dedication Pages to Mrs. Clara H. Waldo, a friend of the College. Mrs. Waldo was born in the Dalles, Oregon, November, 23rd, 1858, Clara Humason Waldo was not only the first woman in America to be named on the Board of Regents of a State Institution, but she was also the first woman to give an address to a graduating class at Oregon State. Clara Humason served as Valedictorian of St. Helen's High School in Portland in 1876. In 1877 she married John B. Waldo, from a prominent pioneer family of Oregon. This branch of the family lived in the Waldo Hills in the Salem, Oregon area, not in the Waldo Lake area in the Cascades. Photo # 9 shows the only color picture in the yearbook. It shows the Administration Building. Photo # 10 shows the experimental farm in Moro, Oregon. It is being used to produce better wheat seeds. Moro is located in Sherman County in north eastern Oregon, near the Washington State Border and is the County Seat for Sherman County. Photo #11 shows field selection of Kale Plants for the best seed. People say Kale is nutritious and packed with lots of vitamins. Also shown is the Agricultural Hall. Photo # 12 shows the Poultry Husbandry activity. Photo # 13 shows Mount Jefferson, known as the King of the Cascades which is about 100 miles away from the College. Mount Jefferson is a stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc. It is the 2nd highest mountain in Oregon, with an elevation of 10,502 feet. It last erupted in 950 A.D. Photo # 14 shows an ad for Jello. Photo # 15 shows an advertisement for A.H. Averill Tractor Company using Russell Engines. Shelf # 71.
