Original 1835 Military Warrant Broadside Document - Appointment of Anthony Beidelman to the rank of Corporal in the New York State Militia, under the command of Captain Alphonz. H. Jozer in the 259th Regiment, 18th Brigade, 20th Division. Signed by Colonel Henry C. Wells at Wellburgh, on August 28th, 1835.
Anthony Beidelman (1812-1890) was the son of Pennsylvania German farmers Isaac Beidelman (1780-1856) and Urana Middaugh Beidelman (1785-1848) of Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, near the New York line. The family appears on the 1820 Census in Athens, but later relocates to Chemung, Tioga, New York by 1830. Anthony Beidelman was born in New York, according to the 1850 census, but lived part of his early life in Bradford County.
The Document is in excellent condition for its age. It was originally folded and mailed to Anthony Beidelman, and there are some minor tears along the folds, and one small cut on the bottom right, where the letter was opened. The addressee is written on the back, which would have been the front when it was mailed, with a small corner loss. The printing and handwritten endorsement is clear and well preserved. The paper is sturdy, with a minor stain at the bottom right. Please carefully inspect all photos and inquire with any questions prior to purchase.
