The surrounding material was fused by the tremendous heat and pressure produced by the impact and catapulted back into the atmosphere. Then fell back and scattered within the diameter of hundreds of kilometers. The friction of atmosphere against the cooling magma created the surface sculpture so unique to Moldavite. Only a very small portion of the original sediments have been preserved until now.They were found in the Bohemian sites which are near the Moldau River Valley, north of Prague, Czechoslovakia.
