This is a Brass coin commemorating the 1982 World\'s Fair. Officially known as the Knoxville International Energy Exposition and simply as Energy Expo \'82 and Expo \'82, was an international exposition held in Knoxville, Tennessee, United StatesObverse:An engraving of the United States Pavilion with the lettering \"WORLDSFAIR\" at the top edge of the coin and \"KNOXVILLE,TENNESSEE\" at the bottom edge of the coin.Reverse:An engraving of a circular shape divided into 5 sections. Around thiscircular figure is the lettering \"UNITED STATES PAVILION\"at the top edge of the coin and \"WORLDS FAIR 1982\" at thebottom edge of the coin.

In 1982, more than 11million people came to Knoxville to experience the hospitality ofEast Tennessee and cultures from around the world. The 1982 World’sFair, formally known as the Knoxville International EnergyExposition, ran May 1 through October 31 under the theme “EnergyTurns Our World” and would become recognized as the last successfulWorld’s Fair held in America.

More than 50 privateorganizations and companies took part in the Fair. Participatingnations included Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt,France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, theNetherlands, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, theUnited Kingdom, the United States, and West Germany.

Theamphitheater and Sunsphere , which is still standing on site today,hosted all official ceremonies and entertainment, including Broadwayshows, world-renowned orchestras, ballet and opera companies. Thelist of entertainers and performers included Johnny and June CarterCash, Japan’s acclaimed Grand Kabuki, Rudolf Nureyev, Red Skelton,Richie Havens, The London Symphony, and Bob Hope
