1981 Chilmark AMBUSHED by Don Polland, Ltd. Ed. Pewter Sculpture, COA, #36 / 500:
$1500.00

You are purchasing a Chilmark pewter sculpture entitled AMBUSHED, by the artist Donald Polland. The sculpture was created in 1981, and was registered with the Chilmark Collectors Society on January 24, 1985. It is a very low serial #36, of a strictly limited edition of only 500 that were cast. It was distributed by Lance International. It is accurate in every detail and is handcast and handcrafted in solid fine pewter. And the detail is amazing - from the rocks, to the figures on horseback, to the weapons and rope they are carrying. The base is approximately 24" long and 12" deep. It weighs nearly 23 lbs. It includes the pictured Certificate of Registration. There is no box. This has been previously displayed. It is complete, and in my opinion, in excellent condition. There are a few very minor nicks and bumps on the wood base, that are not very noticeable and in no way detract from the beauty of this rare collector piece. The only thing missing is the tip of the long spear of the horse rider on the far right. But the feather is still there.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TRUE COLOR OF THE ENTIREPEWTER SCULPTURE IS AS IT APPEARS IN THE LAST PICTURE. THE LIGHTING IN THE ROOM GAVE IT A "GOLD" TONE.It is available for LOCAL PICK UP ONLY. It is much too heavy, with too many tiny pieces and parts to risk shipping it. It is located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I may be willing to travel limited distances to meet and deliver the piece, depending upon where. Please contact me with any questions. I will accept PayPal or Cash upon delivery.

Don Polland was born in Los Angeles in 1932 and is a sculptor of Western figures in miniature bronzes. When he was fifteen, he became a stable boy on a thoroughbred farm. A jockey for two years, he quit because he “had a terrible fondness for eating which jockeys weren’t allowed to do much of.”

He had modeled in clay as a child, and through the years continued toward his goal of preserving the Old West and the Civil War in art while he served in the Navy, and then was an electrician, farmer, commercial artist, tool designer, art director, and a teacher in his own art school.

He also studied modeling, mold making, and foundry practices on his own. In 1966, he was influenced toward four to six inch high miniature bronzes. His work is in the Whitney Gallery of the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum in Cody, Wyoming; the C. M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana; and the Montana Historical Society in Helena, Montana.
