1966 TOPPS BATMAN (RIDDLER SERIES) #22 "AWESOME FOURSOME" GREAT, POPULAR CARD For Sale

This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In 1966, Topps took advantage of the hit TV series "Batman" by issuing several series of cards featuring the characters from the show. All in all, five separate series of cards were issued. While the last two sets were made up of full color photos taken from the theatrical "Batman" movie that was released soon after the TV series started, the first three sets were made up of rather nicely rendered paintings depicting action scenes Topps wrote especially for the cards. These three series are now known to collectors according to the background color used for the bat-shaped caption on the front of the cards. Therefore, the "black-bat" series of 55 cards was the first set issued by Topps, followed quickly by the "red-bat" series of 44 cards and the "blue-bat" series of 44 cards. The red and the blue sets featured a puzzle piece on the back as well as some narrative. The final two series, which used photos from the Batman movie, were known as "Bat Laffs" (55 cards), and the very rare "Riddler's Riddle series (38 cards).Here I have card #22 from the very tough Riddler series, entitled "Awesome Foursome." The card is in very collectible condition with no creases but showing edge wear (see scans for condition). Not too bad for a card that's over fifty years old.
