I recently purchased a large collection of late1700\'s and early 1800\'s porcelain from a prolific, affluent seriouscollector. Most items have printed titles or mottos. Antique c. 1880 Staffordshire alphabet plate that features aview of the \"Marine Railway Station, Manhatton (sic) Beach Hotel\" onthe front. A huge 6-spired sprawling hotel / train station stands in back ofwell-dressed people parading along the Atlantic Ocean. You can see a littletrain on the left side of the hotel (buried under blue paint). Raised alphabetis embossed around the border. No maker’s mark.This railroad and hotel were built on Coney Island, New York,by businessman Austin Corbin, for the use of wealthy New Yorkers. The hotelopened in 1877 and was demolished in 1911.
Condition:Excellent giftable condition. This plate is in fabulous condition for its age. Light crazing without discoloration. Transfer and over-painting intact without erosion or damage. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo\'s. Don\'t feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. No evidence of prior repairs or restoration.
