WW2 Vintage Goggles Siebe Gorman London Rubber Metal Civil Defense RARE For Sale

Original and vintage Siebe Gorman London WW2 Civil Defense Goggles, rubber and metal. Quite  rare.  According to the UK WW2 Civil Defense website, these goggles were part of the fire service breathing set, but used by other civil defense personnel as dust and smoke goggles.

The glass lenses are mounted in rubber secured by metal rings in front..  The rubber at the center is marked Siebe Gorman Maker London. Although the red natural rubber is still flexible, there is some degradation--see photos.  The lenses appear to be double layers of glass, and there is some fogging evident--also see photos.  The black elastic that makes up the harness still retains some stretch but the rectangle of leather at center back of harness is hardened with age.    .

Siebe Gorman & Co. Ltd., in business from 1819-1999, were known for making breathing apparatus and deep sea divers helmets, but they also manufactured a variety of products,including an early iron lung and a camera for use in flooded mines. The factory relocated from London to Surrey after wartime bombing in 1941.

The goggles have no mold or mildew, no bad odors.  From a non-smoking household.
