Vintage US Military World War 2 WWII M1 Garand Rifle Bayonet & Scabbard UFH 1942 For Sale

Up for sale is a Model 1905E-1 bayonet for the M-1 Garand rifle. Appears to have been used in battle. The 1905E-1 was originally made the Model 1905, with a 16\" blade for use during WW1. Later to be cut down to 10\" for the European Theatre in WW2. When the blades were cut down, they usually used a spear tip. Occasionally they cut them with the knife style tip like this one, to compensate for the thin steel of the deep fuller of the early production blades. This one was manufactured by Utica Cutlery in New York. Under one of the first three contracts for the U.S. Government. One side of the blade has U C (Utica Cutlery), the letter U, a flaming bomb symbol and an S. Under that is stamped the year 1942. The other side has UFH (Union Fork and Hoe) stamped over what looks like a circle with crossed cannons. UFH is the company that did the modifications to the blade length. On the bottom of the blade near the tang is also stamped with what looks like a flaming bomb. The Model M-3 scabbard was made by Beckwith and shows this company\'s markings as well on the bottom of the hilt. It\'s hard to make out from the picture. On the top front is the flaming bomb logo with \" U.S.\" inside the bomb. It was not a cut down scabbard, it was made to fit the cut down bayonets. Manufactured between Jan. 1942 and Feb. 1943. The condition of the blade is rough. It has surface rust. Most of the original parkerized finish is gone. The blade and grip shows signs of hard use. Out at the very end of the left side of the blade, notches have been cut by the previous owner. I count ten.
