Vintage RARE 1950\'s RCA Type KN-1B Pressure microphone old antique mid century For Sale

You are looking at a somewhat rare 1950\'s era RCA model Type MI-1204 Pressure microphone that comes with a black metal base.

This very unique microphone was intended for paging and public address type work. It was quite a rugged mic with a built in shock absorber and set at High Z. The KN-1B utilized a single wire transducer that looks very similar to a ribbon mic set up. The single straight wire is embedded and held in the air gap of a permanent magnet. It\'s a very clever and crazy design that was also used in the RCAMI-6207-G Aero pressure mic.

You\'ll notice right away that this KN-1B has it\'s original paint. Theses mics came in an umber grey paint. This one has more of a cinnamon brown look to it though they called it umber grey. This mic also has both of it\'s RCA insignia\'s and they look great. The paint does have typical wear in the form of scuffs, lite scratches and small chips. The chromed front grill has a beautiful luster but does show some small indentations.

The head of this mic pivots forward and backwards depending on the users needs. This microphone has been tested and does work but the signal seems to be on the low side. About 50% strength. This would probably be more ideal for a display piece than an actual PA or HAM mic.

Everything about this mic is unusual really. You\'ll notice in pic # 9 that the cable actually slides up into the handle of the mic where it attaches. it takes your standard XLR cable. The cable itself exits nicely at the bottom of the handle. This mics handle will screw onto any American desk or floor stand but this mic comes with a nice period metal base that compliments this RCA mic nicely.

The mic with stand is appx 11 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide and weighs about 2 pounds total.

An easy 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.
