Vintage Nativity set by Irma Blanco 17 pieces For Sale

This beautiful 17 piece nativity set by Irma García Blanco is a must-have for any Mexican folk art or Blanco family collector. The handmade clay figures depict the main nativity subjects.The set includes 17 figures and features intricate details that make each piece unique. 

Teodora Blanco, deceased, was the first in her family to receive national and international recognition. It was her intention to have Irma, her older daughter, follow in her artistic footsteps and made her her protegee. 

Irma is 64 years old and she herself has won numerous prizes and recognition: Featured in Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art Out of Volcanoes,Fomento Cultural Banamex, Friends of Oaxacan Folk Art in New York and Premio Nacional de Ceramica in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco.

I purchased the set from Irma herself in 1972 in Atzompa, Oaxaca.

The 17 figures in this scene include the following:             

Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus (modestly wearing shorts!)

Three Angels                                                                       

Sizes range from 1 inch to 5 inches in height.
