The fabric does show some splits but it feels very reinforced, you can't stick your fingers in the splits at all. Not sure what kind of fabric it is but it's much higher quality than modern faux leather.Chair has two height settings, the highest one puts the top of the chair at 12 inches as seen in the images. Theres a second setting for a lower profile.
