Vintage BRONZED 1940's LHT 1st Baseman's Mitt-Display/Trophy-A True Work Of Art:
$125

Up for sale is aVintage BRONZED 1940's LEFT HAND THROW Baseman's Mitt Display Piece/Trophy that is in amazing condition. The mitt is almost 12 inches in length, almost 9 inches in width, almost 6 inches in height and weighs in at a hefty 2 pounds, 13 ounces!! This mitt is very difficult to identify the manufacturer of as the original tag has been bronzed (see photos) and there are no buttons or any other identifiers present. Several Manufacturers made first baseman's mitts in the 1940's, notably Nokona, Wilson, MacGregor Goldsmith and several others. They were designed for first basemen to be able to "scoop" a ball off of the ground as it was rolling in an effort to make plays quicker. These were commonly referred to as "Trapper" style gloves. There is an attached photo of a vintage Wilson Trapper model for reference, the glove in that photo is NOT FOR SALE, only the bronzed piece.
If you have any interest in vintage gloves (which you must, since you are reading this) you will know that first baseman's mitts are rare, LEFT HANDED first baseman's mitts are rarer, and BRONZED LEFT HANDED FIRST BASEMAN'S MITTS are quite possibly the rarest of them all! As to condition, this mitt has possibly the best looking patina we have ever seen! The vintage bronzing has begun to lightly tarnish, and the inner part of the glove has started to turn a lovely shade of green, similar to how copper ages. Whoever had this glove originally bronzed must have REALLY loved this piece. You can see from the photos that there were missing pieces of leather lacing that were never replaced prior to the bronzing process. This truly adds to the overall look of this piece and gives it TONS of character!! This handsome piece would look equally amazing either sitting on a desk or in a trophy case. Pieces like this do not come around very often, better get this one while you can!
