This listing is for an extraordinary and rare antique St. George styled chess set, circa 1870. This exquisitely carved and meticulously hand turned British set with beautiful silky patina is well preserved and in remarkable original condition. It is dirty and we will leave it to the new owner to clean. The King stands 4 3/8\" tall, the Queen stands 2 7/8\" tall; the Pawns stand 1 1/2\" tall. The set is in very nice condition with no major defects. The black knights show wear. There is a minor hairline in the lower ring of a white pawn;and middle ring of white queen. A black rook has a knick to its collar and a black bishop has chips to top. Original green felted bottoms are intact. The sale include the slide lid box. The sale does not include the chess board.
