Very Good! Circa 1939
This is a 16 fl oz (0.5 lt) jug, which belonged to the German ship M/S ALSTERUFER (1939), which made cargo trips during WWII and on its last voyage in 1943 it carried 344 tons of wolframite from Japan and destined for Germany, an element with which bearings were built for many vehicles and was very scarce in Germany.
It measures 5.2" (13 cm) in height, by a maximum width of 6" (15 cm). Top without handle measures 3.2 " x 2.8" (8 x 7 cm) and base has a diameter of 3" (7.5 cm).
It weights 1 lb 3 oz (533 g).
In 1841, Eugen Boch bought a pottery in the Hamlet of Saint-Vaast well located in relation to the land deposits, the Charleroi canal, railway access and active coal mining in the region, the starting point of the Boch Frères Company which was founded on September 30, 1844. The first staff of the earthenware factory was made up of Luxembourgers, Sarrois, Lorraines coming from Septfontaines, Echternach and Mettlach, who were quickly joined by Belgians trained on the job . The years following the opening of the factory saw output and production grow admirably thanks to the quality of the pieces obtained: the earthenware was pure, its color was beautiful and its solidity was incontestable.
