A Brief History of Fabergé Inc.

- 1937 SamRubin, an American of Russian descent, started a perfume business. Upon thesuggestion of his friend Dr Armand Hammer, who at the behest of Vladimir Leninbecame the Soviets’ first foreign concessionaire, branded his perfumes Fabergéand formed Fabergé Inc. This was done without the Fabergé family’s permission.

- 1950 After WWIIand discovering Rubin’s activities, the Fabergé family decided to settle out ofcourt to avoid high legal fees. Rubin paid $25,000 ($315K today) to use theirname solely for perfume.

- 1964 SamuelRubin sold Fabergé Inc to George Barrie’s cosmetic company Rayette for US$26million. The combined company was called Rayette-Fabergé Inc.

- 1971 Thecompany’s name Rayette-Fabergé Inc. reverted to Fabergé Inc.

- 1984 FabergéInc was sold for $180 million.

- 1985 Tigresswas discontinued.

- 1987 FabergéInc acquired Elizabeth Arden for $700 million.

- 1989 Unileverbought Fabergé Inc for $1.55 billion.
