Okay Gang : A Mini History Lesson………..Back when this model car kit was manufactured in Mt Clemens, Michigan, MPC ( Model Products Corporation) was the USA leader in plastic model car kits. Maybe not the leader in sales but definitely the leader in detail, innovation and creativity.

MPC pioneered the idea of Super Size kits in 1/20 scale for 1968, which because of their slightly larger size allowed more parts and detail. This Super Size 1969 Corvette was made in the 2nd year of MPC 1/20 Corvette kits which covered the entire C3 run from 1968 through 1982. Each year the molds were welded up/sections replaced as needed and recut to reflect the changes made in the real Corvette.

This 1969 Corvette Open Sportster was the 1st of the 1968-1981 run to be made as a convertible. IT WAS ALSO THE LAST OF THE RUN TO BE MADE AS A CONVERTIBLE!

That\'s right: of the entire 1968-1981 MPC 1/20 Corvette Series, the ONLY year that a roadster was offered was in 1969. Of course MPC also made a 1969 Corvette Coupe in 1/20 scale that is easier to find.

But of the entire 1968-1981 series,
this 1969 Open Sportster is probably the 3rd hardest to find behind the 1973 Coupe and the 1969 ½ Funny Car.

This \'69 427 Sports Roadster builds Stock, Custom or Drag, all with variations of the mighty Mark IV Chevy Rat Motor.

Goodyear tires with street treads and grooved sidewalls to accept included redline insets and Goodyear Drag Slicks. Vinyl floor mats and seat belts. Stock 390 Horse 4Bbl induction or Supercharger with early-style weedburner headers. Also a Hilborn-style fuel injection setup with water crossover and Moon tanks. Detailed front and multipiece rear suspensions with real steel front coil springs, moving lower control arms and steerable front wheels. Working popup headlight doors and colorful decal sheet to duplicate the box art.

Say, are those uber-cool HURST wheels on the tree? Why YES! Yes, they are!

This truly rare SUPER SIZE 1969 Roadster includes 3 parts Not Seen in ANY other 1/20 Corvette kit by MPC or any other manufacturer for that matter. They are: the vinyl tonneau cover, the 3-point roll hoop, and the cutdown Sports windscreen. All are present and accounted for here.

Clear parts were checked and ALL the clear parts a very nice except for the racing windshield that has a handful of short, minor scratches. Too minor to capture in a pic. Decal sheet is 49 years old. May or may not be viable.

Includes the Advance Detailing instructions which shows how to use the (correct and included) red plastic thread to make ignition wires.

Also, most of the contents of this kit came from a Factory Sealed 1969 Open Sportster kit (even the Coupe roof hatch brace) that had punctures and wrinkles in the box top. The red parts bag was never sealed at the factory and instead had the corners folded to the middle and stapled with one staple. I unfolded the staple & discarded it after I saw that the windshield frame had issues. The original bag is included. I don\'t know what made the punctures but there is a scratched area on the convertible hatch door which is marked in the pics. The affected area is about 1/8” diameter and about .006” deep, or about the thickness of 2 pieces of standard copy paper. See the pic and follow the green arrows. There is also a clean crack through a left hand taillight hole. I temporarily moved it out of position for the pics. Box slightly soiled and worn - see the BIG pics for all box defects.

Finally, i\'ve owned a couple dozen examples of this MPC 1/20 Corvette Convertible. The ONLY ones that had good windshield frames were the ones that were built back in the day and had a windshield glued in to hold the frame in place. With the others, the weight of the other parts on top of the W/S frame, or the body upside down and bearing down on the frame was enough to warp the frame over the years. Or break it through one or both A-pillars. This example had a bent-down frame that has been carefully corrected with gentle, concentrated heat, by me. The frame is again at the correct angle as measured with a template that I made from a 1/20 Coupe kit because after all, the Coupe and this Convertible both came from the same mold after a few mold parts were changed. I\'ve been buying these kits for many years. It is common for open-box and even sealed examples of this kit to have problems, usually horrible tire melt marks on the windows or chrome trees. THIS kit has been meticulously checked against the instructions and my own reference pics and is 100% Complete and Correct with the ONLY problems already described above.
100% never started in any way.

Build it, display it, gift it, or use it for reference against other open-box kits.
