Super Rare Vintage German Klira Electric Acoustic Single Cutaway Parlor Guitar For Sale

Super rare electric acoustic parlor guitar from the late 50s or early 60s. The serial number suggests 1961. No markings except for the script engraved “troubadour” where a Klira logo would be on the body. I believe this is a Klira, made in Germany, literally down the road from the Hofner factory. The tailpiece is marked Made in Germany as are the internal electronics. I have never seen this model with the single cutaway and I have only seen one picture of this guitar and it had different electronics (two pots) and in place of the engraved “Troubadour” was the Klira name. The cosmetics are great. It has beautiful lacquer checking that looks very much like my 1967 Hofner bass finish. It is what it is. Beautiful pearloid pickguard made from a material that looks to be the same as the kind used on Hofners. 18 frets with lots of life left in them. The action is very high, perfect for slide. I don’t think the height can be dropped with the pickup in place; the strings just clear it now. The electronics are in need of some TLC. The volume pot (which is an open design) has significant dead spots. I think the switch is wired as a tone switch, but it really just turns the pickup on and off to my ears. This guitar predates the standardization of the ¼” output jack; this output is a smaller size and cannot accommodate a modern ¼” plug. I used alligator clips to bypass the jack and test the lap steel styled single blade pickup. It passes a signal but is quite noisy in its current condition. I believe everything to be original (including the wooden strap button) except for the strip tuners. They are metal and have Philips head screws; I think that these come from a later period as all the other screws are period-correct slot head screws. I dare you to find another of these. Ha!
